Smart diagnosis and optimization of buildings using IoT and artificial intelligence - "Building EKG"

The project is co-financed by the European Union under the Competitiveness and Cohesion Program 2021–2027, supported by the European Regional Development Fund.

On 5 December 2025, Brainblockenergy d.o.o. concluded a Grant Agreement for the project “Smart Diagnostics and Optimization of Buildings Using IoT and Artificial Intelligence – EKG”. The Agreement was signed between the Ministry of Economy, the Croatian Agency for SMEs, Innovation and Investments (HAMAG-BICRO), and the beneficiary, Brainblockenergy d.o.o. The innovation development project, Smart Building Infrastructure Diagnostics and Optimization (SBIDO), aims to strengthen the beneficiary’s competitiveness through the development of an advanced digital solution for intelligent infrastructure management in buildings. The objective is to deliver an innovative platform that enhances energy and operational efficiency while enabling strategic, data-driven infrastructure management in real time.

Technological readiness - The path from laboratory to market

The SBIDO platform is currently at Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 5, having been validated in a relevant laboratory environment, with core prototypes developed for data acquisition, edge analytics, and initial sensor integration. The project foresees a phased increase in technological maturity through pilot implementation and validation activities. The solution will first be demonstrated in a relevant environment (an office building and a shopping center), reaching TRL 6. Subsequent full-scale demonstration in real operational conditions will achieve TRL 7. Upon completion of comprehensive testing, validation, and system optimization in real-use environments, the platform will attain TRL 8, confirming full functionality and readiness for market deployment and commercialization.

Specific objectives and project results

  • Creating the conditions for commercialization through the development and testing of the SBIDO platform in its final form and under expected operating conditions.
  • Supporting workforce stability while contributing to new employment opportunities.
  • Strengthening market positioning and enabling entry into international markets.
  • Increasing sales revenue.
  • Development of one innovative product.
  • Increased digitalization of building infrastructure management and establishment of preconditions for predictive and preventive maintenance.
  • Consumption and CO₂ emissions visualization functionalities, alongside implementation of educational activities.

The project implementation period is 24 months.

The total project value amounts to 181.582,96 EUR, of which 129.117,55 EUR is financed through non-repayable grant funding.
